Congress Must Adhere
To A Realistic Budget

Congress has failed to stick to their own budget; a budget that lacks realistic spending caps and fails to address current problems. Congress has thrown money at everything. Taxpayer dollars need to stop going to foreign nations and anti-American propaganda. Congress needs to write a budget that is America first focused and stick to it.

It is clear that Congress has repeatedly failed the American people. Congress has a responsibility to pass a budget, but somehow politics is always interfering with their responsibility. Does the government forget to collect taxes by the due date? No. But the congressional budget process is almost always drawn out for months past their deadline and, as a result, officials threaten a government shutdown, blaming the current majority party and spreading fear among the public. What are the practical purposes of the budget? First, to cover necessary spending needs for the betterment of the American people’s lives. Secondly, to create a spending plan that will continually lower costs for Americans and ensure the prosperity of the citizens. Finally, to create a strong and lasting economy for the current and future generations that will call the United States home.

In fiscal year 2024, Congress spent approximately 6.8 trillion dollars; of that, only $4.1 trillion was considered mandatory spending. Surprise, mandatory spending doesn’t include defense funding. In 2024, mandatory spending was Social Security ($1.5 Trillion), Medicare ($865 Billion), Medicaid ($618 Billion), Income Security Programs ($370 Billion), and Other ($752 Billion). These expenses alone are very close to the total revenues of 4.9 trillion dollars, leaving defense/nondefense spending and debt interest unaccounted for. Over the past few decades, Congress has created programs that consume money and far surpass responsible spending limitations. These programs have been sold to the American people as beneficial in assisting the American people, but as a result, the American dollar has suffered from overprinting, the economy has struggled because of financial uncertainty, and inflation has steadily climbed to an unrealistic and devasting point for consumers. The effects of this unbridled spending are impacting the next generation in a very frustrating way. Young people see costs for first-time home buyers far out of their reach; therefore, a mortgage is their only, supposed, solution. This leaves the next generation stuck with school loans, home mortgages, credit card bills, and Congress debt. We aren’t being fiscally responsible as a nation, and Congress is no different. They continue to spend money in Washington, D.C., like there is no tomorrow. But there is a tomorrow, and, for the sake of our children, it is necessary to address the overspending now and put in place a laser-focused well-thought-out budgeting plan that will protect the interests of future generations. “We the People” can see the positive results from the Trump tariffs and trade deals. However, it is incumbent upon Congress to spend wisely and frugally. As revenue increases spending must adjust accordingly, and over time the American debt, which taxpayers now pay $1 trillion in interest for, must be paid off. Congress must stop overspending!
