The integrity of our nation’s government is at stake. There are many federal elected officials, whose actions display disdain and contempt for the United States, Americans, and the traditional values our nation is founded upon. To hold elected officials accountable, “We the People” are taking a stand. Congress must change their behavior or face not being re-elected.
The quality of those serving in federal elected offices in the United States has been steadily declining. While not every person serving is a disgrace to the office they fill, many are. There are those in federal office right now who could care less about the American people, our national security, or the future success of the United States. Many have shown their allegiance to be to money, power, and their position. By the same token, citizens of the United States have in many ways ignored or abdicated their duty to hold Congressional members accountable for their decisions in office. The integrity of our government now and moving forward is at stake. If “We the People” do nothing, integrity in our government will only continue to decline. Action must be taken and it must be taken by Americans; standing together, motivated by our traditional values, and committed to bringing integrity and Patriotism back to elected office.
This sobering thought was penned by Noah Webster. Webster was responsible for the 1828 Dictionary, Blue-backed Speller, and other influential works compiled in the 1700’s and 1800’s. He said: “When you become entitled to exercise the right of voting for public officers, let it be impressed on your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers, just men who will rule in the fear of God. The preservation of government depends on the faithful discharge of this duty; if the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office, the government will soon be corrupted; laws will be made, not for the public good so much as for selfish or local purposes; corrupt or incompetent men will be appointed to execute the laws; the public revenues will be sqandered on unworthy men; and the rights of the citizens will be violated or disregarded. If a republican government fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the citizens neglect the divine commands, and elect bad men to make and administer the laws.”
Webster put it so eloquently for the reader. It is the citizens duty to elect just individuals who will rule in the fear of God. If we the people neglect this duty or fail to head it, what we are experiencing now in elected office will only continue to grow in magnitude. It’s time the American people stand together and do our duty!
