The Issue of Birthright Citizenship

Being an American is an honor and a blessing that sadly many individuals in our nation take for granted. It is unfortunate to witness the value and meaning of United States citizenship be torn down through misinterpretation of the Constitution and lack of Congress’ willingness to protect citizenship. “We the People” call upon the Supreme Court to decide wisely and we demand Congress address the issue of birthright citizenship immediately, by ending its practice.

Citizenship is an important part of our American way of life. Citizens of the United States of America are blessed with liberties and freedoms that many people across the world do not enjoy. It stands to reason that the enemies of our nation and the enemies of freedom would seek to tear down the value and meaning of being an American citizen. The real concern is how a group of individuals can get into federal elected office that have the ideological beliefs to destroy the foundational value and traditional heritage of being an American citizen. The issue of birthright citizenship has been around for decades, but it has never been more potent then now. The abuse of the current interpretation of the 14th amendment has allowed and encouraged non-citizens to enter our nation illegally, have children, and then enjoy the benefits of having a child that was given United States citizenship. Check out Majority Votes Issue: Protecting Citizens Rights to discover more on the 14th amendment. However, this problem isn’t exclusive to illegal aliens. Foreign visitors, here temporarily, can have a child on US soil and in so doing the child will be given citizenship. The question of birthright citizenship is extremely critical and must be resolved. There are a couple of effective means to achieve the level of security necessary and protect the value that citizenship deserves. The Supreme Court of the United States is hearing the case Trump v Barbara; which essentially is, does President Trump’s 2025 Executive Order 14160 comply with the citizenship clause of the 14th Amendment and with 8 U.S.C. § 1401(a), which codifies that clause. Executive Order 14160 can be read here.

Should the court rule that President Trump’s executive order is in violation of the 14th amendment, then non-citizens children will continue to receive US citizenship when born on United States soil and such a lapse in judgement would be unbecoming of the court. But there is a solution to end the question of birthright citizenship permanently. Congress can write a Constitutional amendment to protect the value and security of American citizens rights. Our American heritage and traditional values are under attack by the adversaries of our nation. Exploiting the tolerance of birthright citizenship is just one method weaponized to take power and freedom away from Americans.

Allowing individuals who enter our country illegally and have a child to claim citizenship for that child and all the rights and benefits that come with citizenship is a grave error by our elected officials and judicial system. The importance of the court’s decisions regarding birthright citizenship is extremely clear. When a child is born in our country, but the mother is here illegally or temporarily, and the father is not a citizen or lawful resident then the child should not receive automatic citizenship in the United States.
